I’ve worked in search engine optimisation for 17 years. These days I work independently, helping Auckland businesses build search visibility that turns into real enquiries.

Experience

17 years of watching search change

SEO has changed enormously in 17 years. I’ve worked through the shift from matching keywords to understanding intent, Google’s crackdowns on manipulative link building, the move to mobile-first indexing, the rise of the local map pack, and now search results with AI-generated answers in them.

That history is useful because it shows what lasts. Tactics that game the system stop working, and some get penalised. What keeps working is a technically sound site, a clear structure, and the most useful answer to the search. I explain more of that thinking in how Google understands your website and my Auckland SEO guide.

Working independently means I’m the person you talk to, and the person who works on your site.

“If I can’t explain why a change will help your business, I shouldn’t be charging you for it.”

Principles

How I work

Diagnose before prescribing

No work starts until we understand what’s actually holding the site back.

Explain it plainly

You should understand what’s being done and why, without having to decode jargon.

Measure outcomes

Enquiries and sales are the measure. Rankings and traffic are supporting evidence.

Stay within the rules

No bought links, no spun content, and no shortcuts that put your business at risk.

Be honest about fit

If SEO isn’t the best use of your budget right now, I’ll tell you.

Do the work myself

The person you talk to is the person who audits, fixes and reports. No hand-offs.
